One of the most important thing when you’re battling with acne is keeping your skin clean. But in our everyday busy lives, our face is constantly exposed to tons of makeup, dirt and dust and keeping our face sparkly clean is a real challenge.

Another thing that you can add to your anti acne routine is hot compresses for treating acne which is an alternative to homemade steam facial. The hot compress will help the pores on your face to open. That way you can easily remove the dirt and excess oils that have accumulated in them. All this will bring you one step closer to cleaning acne and blackheads.

Important! Don’t do the hot compresses if you have visible capillaries, skin irritations, other skin conditions such as rosascea or some respiratory problems.

How to make hot compresses for treating acne?

You can make hot compresses for cleaning acne in two ways – warming a towel in the microwave or just dipping a face towel in a hot water.

How to make hot compress for acne treatment – using the microwave

Make a hot compress for acne treatment by using your microwave, it’ll only take a few minutes. Just be careful – the towel shouldn’t be too hot so you’ll burn your skin. Test it on your arm first, if it’s not too hot, place it on your face. Here’s what you need to do: Take a face towel, soak it with cold water and squeeze it. You can also add 1-2 drops of lavender oil or any of your favorite essential oil for a relaxing spa treatment. Place the towel in your microwave for about 10-20 seconds and remove it carefully. If the towel is not warm enough, return it and warm it again for 5-10 seconds. The towel shouldn’t be too hot either.

Place the towel on your face, lean your face down and hold the towel with your both hands. Keep the towel on your face until it cools (10-15 minutes). The pores of your face should be opened. Wash your face with a gentle homemade face scrub or your favorite cleanser and warm water. Now that your pores are open, it will be easier for you to get rid of the impurities and excess oils.

Repeat the procedure with the hot compress again to reopen your pores. Apply your favorite acne treatment cream or your favorite moisturizing oil. Place some cold water in a clean spray bottle and spritz it on your face to close your pores. Leave your face to dry or pat dry it gently and avoid touching your face in the next 10-20 minutes.
