What makes the hair dry?

Dry hair may be inherited or can be of the result of external factors such strong chemicals, dying, use of hot appliances like straightener or curler, chlorine in the pools, long sun exposure, and others. So try to eliminate these harmful things.

Home care for dry hair

Don’t use too much shampoo. Washing your hair frequently with harsh shampoo may be the answer why your hair is dry. Many people believe that if their hair is very clean then it’s healthy and that’s why they wash it once or twice a day. But many shampoos often contain strong chemicals that strip the natural oils of the hair and dry it too much.
Be gentle. The ends of the dry hair are very easy to break, so you should be careful. While you wash it with shampoo be gentle and don’t rub it to much. Don’t use your nails to wash your scalp. Massage your scalp with the help of your fingers.
Use conditioner. Dry and damaged hair desperately needs conditioner. Buy products that contain very little or don’t contain alcohol at all. Alcohol further dries the hair and therefore you should avoid it. Conditioners that have very delicate aroma, or the odorless ones, have a minimum amount of alcohol in them.
Comb your hair less frequently. Most people think that the more you comb your hair, the better, but it isn’t exactly so. Excessive brushing makes the hair weak and the ends can easily break. Always comb your hair carefully and never when it’s still wet. Also choose a nice and gentle hair brush.
Massage your scalp. One way to stimulate the oil glands of the scalp is to massage it while you wash your hair with shampoo. Massage it carefully with your fingers.
Avoid everything that’s hot. Wear a hat if you plan to expose your hair to the sun. Straightening and curling with hot appliances dries the hair further and try to avoid them as much as possible. Dry your hair with a hair dryer on the lowest temperature. Keep the appliance at least 10 inches from your hair. Never keep it on the same spot longer than 15 seconds.

To take proper care for your dry and damaged hair you can do a lot of things including using homemade hair masks for dry and damaged hair. But if you don’t want to do a full DIY hair mask here are some tips on how to use ingredients found in your kitchen to make your hair shiny and healthy:

Apple cider vinegar. Organic apple cider vinegar may help the dry hair in several ways. It is excellent as a conditioner, because it makes the hair shinier. Use one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in the water for the final rinse.
Avocado and banana. Mash one avocado and one banana, sieve them through a mesh sieve to get a really smooth paste (it’s easier for rinsing) and apply the mixture to your hair. Leave it for 30 minutes to an hour and wash your hair as usual.
Beer. After washing your hair, spray or splash your hair with beer. People say that is makes the hair stronger and shinier.
Eggs. Eggs are great for care of dry hair. Mix three eggs with two tablespoons of olive oil and apply the mixture evenly on your hair. Put a plastic cap and allow the mixture to act for 30 minutes. Then wash the hair with shampoo.
Mayonnaise. Apply to the hair one tablespoon of mayonnaise and place the hair in plastic cap. Wait for 30 minutes and wash it thoroughly with shampoo.
Olive or coconut oil. Brush the scalp with olive or coconut oil, place the plastic cap and allow it to act overnight. In the morning wash the hair with shampoo.
