Your heart and liver love broccoli
Did you know that broccoli is one of the few vegetables that contribute to a significant reduction in cardiovascular diseases?
Seven studies covered over 100 000 participants and showed that people whose menu mostly includes broccoli, tea, onions and apples (foods rich in flavonoids) have 20% lower risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Flavonoids have more than 6000 nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. They are not only ‘responsible’ for the fruits and vegetables beautiful colors, but are also associated with many health benefits.
Broccoli also contains a unique compound which is useful – organosulfur, which contributes to activation and stabilization of antioxidants in the body and improves the mechanisms for detoxification.
Other sulfur substances that are released as a result of cutting, chewing or digestion of vegetables, increase the ability of the liver to produce enzymes that neutralize potentially toxic, stimulating cancer compounds.
Leave chopped broccoli for 5-10 minutes before cooking, to release as many health benefit substances.
