Yogurt can lower the risk for developing caries in children, scientists say. The results of the Japanese research had confirmed that if they want to lower the chances of developing caries with 22%, children must take yogurt at least four times weekly.
The scientists investigated the effect of other dairy products too, but it came clear that the cheese and the milk have not a positive influence on the health of the teeth, as the yogurt does.
It isn’t still clear how yogurt decreases the need for dental fillings. The reseachers suppose that it contains proteins which bind on the surface of the teeth and protect them from the negative influence of the acids.
This is not the first study with these kind of results. Previously, Australian scientists also proved that yogurt protect children teeth from caries.
