Colored hair requires double hair care effort than the natural hair, and if it’s bleached, the hair care  becomes even more complicated and needs even more effort. Colored hair care tip #1 – Dyeing your hair at home

You don’t have to go to the hair salon to get your hair colored, If you’ve found a commercial hair dye that you like there is nothing wrong with dyeing your hair at home. But, if you dye your hair for the first time make sure that you choose a hair dye that will compliment your hair color. For example if you have golden undertones, don’t choose hair dye that has cool undertone – it’ll make your hair dull and lifeless. Also if you want to bleach your hair at home, make sure that you’re ready for the result and consequences. If you decide that you want bleached hair, do it at a salon. If you bleach your hair at home, you’ll probably get orange, yellow or brassy hair. Also keep in mind that bleaching really damages your hair and your hair will get extremely dry and damaged.

Dyed hair care tip #2 – Use appropriate shampoo and conditioner

Your hair needs to be washed with shampoo and conditioner that’s specially formulated for colored hair. These types of shampoos and conditioners are typically contain silicon, which enhances the brightness of the pigment. But if you don’t want to use store bought shampoo and conditioner, then there are tons of products that contain natural ingredients that fix the color and help it stay for longer and don’t fade. But whatever shampoo and conditioner you chose you should know that these types of hair products don’t usually contain ingredients that makes the color to fade easily.

The chemicals in hair dyes make the hair porous, which causes more dryness and makes the color to fade faster. That’s why you should use DIY homemade hair masks for colored hair once a week colored hair to keep your hair healthy and nourished and help the color to stay longer. For more efficiency leave the homemade hair masks for colored hair for at least 30 minutes with a shower cap on and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Water, especially hot water, is the main reason for the color to fade. In combination with harsh shampoo, your hair color will definitely fade.

Using hot appliances like hairdryer and other styling appliances like flat iron and curling wand will dry and damage the hair structure, which affects the hair color. Therefore try at least to leave your hair to dry naturally, or set your hairdryer to cool air when you dry your hair and then use flat iron or curling wand. Of course, don’t forget to apply a heat protector before using hot appliances.

Chlorine in the water reacts with chemicals in the hair dye and breaks them down and that’s why the color fades. Why you need to be careful not to spend too much time swimming into the pool. But the best thing to do is to tie your hair into a bun and try not to wet it too much (or if you’re brave enough, wear a swimming cap). Also, there are some lotions and oils that protect your hair and skin from the chlorine so you can also try them out.

Dyed hair care tip #8 – Rinse with carbonated water

Tap water contains chlorine and magnesium, which accumulate onto the hair and cause the hair color to fade. So try to rinse your hair with carbonated water after washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner. Carbonated water will break down these minerals and make your hair soft and silky.

Maintaining your hair color requires some major changes in your usual hair care routine. But knowing how to take care of your colored hair properly, your hair color will be shiny and intense week after week after you colored your hair.
