With a home pedicure treatment you’ll make your feet beautiful and with a foot massage you’ll also improve the blood circulation. Getting a professional pedicure is ok, but if you don’t have the time and money for it you can easily make a spa pedicure at home. Spa pedicure at home is an easy and simple procedure and it is practically free, you only need some basic pedicure tools and a nail polish. Here how to make your own spa pedicure at home step by step.

Spa pedicure at home - step by step

Spa pedicure at home step 1: Relax

To really enjoy your at home spa pedicure experience you need to be relaxed and calm. Play some relaxing music, light up a scented candle and enjoy your pedicure just like being in an expensive beauty center.

Spa pedicure at home step 2: Clean the old nail polish

If you have an old nail polish on your toes, remove it by using cotton pads and nail polish remover without acetone. Soak the cotton pads and it rub your nails.

If the nail polish doesn’t come off easily, then soak the cotton pad with nail polish remover, place it on your nail and wait for a few seconds. After few seconds you should be able to easily wipe off the nail polish. If you have really stubborn nail polish that doesn’t want to come off easily, use acetone but keep in mind that acetone can really dry your nails.

If you have stains on your nails or they have become yellowish from excessive use of nail polish, you can rub them with an old toothbrush and toothpaste made for teeth whitening.

Spa pedicure at home step 3: Soak your feet in a warm foot bath

If you want to have a really relaxing spa pedicure at home, you shouldn’t rush this step because it is probably the most relaxing and enjoyable. The warm foot bath will clean your feet, help you feel good and relaxed, and it will soften your skin, preparing it for exfoliation and scrubbing.

Fill a tub (or a bigger bowl that you will use only for pedicure) with warm water and add 2 cups of milk and 1 teaspoon of your favorite essential oil (rosemary oil, mint oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil or any essential oil of your choice).

Place a small towel at the bottom of the tub so you’ll have a comfortable base for your feet. Then dip your feet and enjoy your warm foot bath for at least 20-30 minutes.

Spa pedicure at home step 4: Exfoliate your feet

Having a spa pedicure at home is not just washing your feet and applying a nail polish. You also need to exfoliate and scrub the rough skin on your feet especially on your heels because it looks very unattractive.

Start with a foot brush and brush your feet. It will help you to remove the dead skin cells and to soften your feet.

Use a foot scrub. You can prepare a homemade foot scrub that is natural, inexpensive and very simple to make. Just mix 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of olive oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Massage your feet with the foot scrub starting form the toes, then the heels and up to where you need it. Always massage your feet with a circular movements. Do it for 2 minutes on each foot and then rinse them with warm water.

Continue with pumice stone or foot buffer. Regular use of pumice stone or foot buffer will do wonders for your  feet, so do not skip this step.

Spa pedicure at home step 5: Shape your nails and cuticles

For this at home spa pedicure step you’ll need to dry your feet well and get nail clipper, cuticle oil and cuticle pusher.

Cut your nails in a straight line and avoid cutting the corners, otherwise you risk your nails to grow in a awkward angle and sometimes they can grow into the skin which is extremely painful. The length of the nails should not exceed the tip of your toes. To soften the corners, use a nail buffer.

After that, rub your cuticles with a cuticle oil and push them with a cuticle pusher or rounded wooden stick to the root of your nail. The warm foot bath softens the cuticles and this procedure should be easy. You should never cut your cuticles. If your cuticles are not really visible you can skip this procedure.

Spa pedicure at home step 6: Soften your skin and do a foot massage

Put some of your favorite body lotion on your palms. Then rub it onto your feet and massage them with circular movements. Foot massage improves the blood circulation, relaxes the muscles, reduces pain and reduces the swelling of the tired feet. Massage your feet until the lotion soaks into the skin.

Spa pedicure at home step 7: Apply nail polish on your toes

Take a cotton pad and remove the lotion from the nails. Then apply a base coat. If you don’t have a  base coat, just apply a clear nail polish. It will protect your nails, especially if you use a nail polish in a strong color.

You should apply at least two coats of nail polish, but how much coats you will apply and in which color, it is your choice. Once the nail polish is dry, you can use a top coat and little extra oil to soften the skin.
