5 Homemade anti-dandruff hair masks

homemade anti dandruff hair masks

Everyone who suffered from dandruff at any point of their lives knows how persistent and annoying this problem can be, especially when you see the small white flakes on your dark clothes. Anti dandruff shampoos can give a certain relief, but sometimes they are not a permanent solution and also some of them can be too harsh and actually worsen the condition. Using a natural homemade hair mask is a great way to reduce and maybe even to eliminate dandruff. Here are some DIY homemade anti dandruff hair masks:

DIY homemade anti-dandruff hair mask with coconut oil and lemon

For this homemade anti dandruff hair mask you will need some coconut oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix three tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice with one tablespoon of coconut oil and mix well. To combine the coconut oil and lemon juice more easily, warm the coconut oil until it becomes liquid. If you don’t like your DIY anti dandruff hair mask to be runny, just add a little bit of oat flour until you get the consistency that you like. Apply the mixture on your roots and then to the rest of the hair, put a shower cap on and leave it for 30-40 minutes. Rinse and wash with your favorite shampoo and conditioner.

DIY homemade anti-dandruff hair mask with white clay

For this homemade anti dandruff hair mask you will need just a white clay powder, one egg yolk and some water. Mix 2 tablespoons of white clay powder with one well beaten egg yolk and add a little bit of water until you get the consistency that you like (it shouldn’t be too thick). Make sure that you use a very fine white clay powder because it will be easier to wash it out from your hair. Another thing that you can do is to sift the white clay powder and that way you’ll be sure that your mixture won’t have lumps of clay in it. Apply the homemade anti dandruff hair mask to the roots first and then to the rest of the hair. Put a shower cap on, wrap your head with a towel and leave it for 1 hour. Wash it with shampoo and conditioner as usual.

DIY homemade anti-dandruff hair mask with yogurt and herbs

For this DIY anti dandruff hair mask you will need a blend of herbs that you can easily find at your whole foods store or online and plain yogurt. If you’re really light blonde, you might want to skip this DIY hair mask because some of the herbs might darken your hair. Take 1 teaspoon of dried sage, 1 teaspoon of lime zest, 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile and 1 teaspoon of dried nettle and mix them together. Add 3 tablespoons of boiling water and leave the herbs to steep for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, strain the herbs. Take 3-4 tablespoons of plain yogurt and add the strained herb ‘tea’. Mix everything together and apply it on your roots and to the rest of your hair. Put a shower cap on and leave it for 30-40 minutes. After that rinse your hair and wash it with shampoo and conditioner.

DIY homemade anti-dandruff hair mask with calendula oil

Calendula oil made from calendula flowers has been used for hundreds of years because of its anti inflammatory and wound healing properties. Take 5 tablespoons of plain yogurt and add 10 drops of calendula oil. If you can’t find calendula oil, you can make a very string tea by taking 2 teaspoons of dried calendula flowers and adding 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Let it stand for 15 minutes and strain it. Mix the plain yogurt with the calendula oil and apply the mixture to your roots and to the rest of your hair. Put a shower cap on and leave it for 30-40 minutes. After that rinse the DIY anti dandruff hair mask and wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

DIY homemade anti-dandruff hair mask with vinegar

To make this homemade anti dandruff hair mask you will need some white clay powder and apple cider vinegar (preferably organic and unfiltered). In a bowl add 3 tablespoons of white clay powder (you can sift it to get a very smooth mixture) and 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Stir everything together and if you need to add some water until you get a homogeneous mixture with the consistency that you like, just make sure that it isn’t too thick. Apply the mixture to your roots, put a shower cap on and wrap your hair with a towel. Leave the DIY anti dandruff hair mask for 30-40 minutes, rinse and wash your hair with your shampoo and conditioner.
